Spring Canal Walk Season Opens April 15

The Erie Canal Foundation is excited to announce the opening of our annual Spring Canal Walk season, beginning April 15, 2026. This beloved tradition invites community members of all ages to explore the scenic Canalway Trail as wildflowers bloom and migratory birds return to the waterway.

This year’s program features guided walks along five different sections of the canal, each highlighting unique historical landmarks and natural features. Our trained volunteer guides will share stories of the canal’s construction, its role in transforming American commerce, and the communities that grew along its banks.

Walk Schedule

Walks depart every Saturday and Sunday morning at 9:00 AM from designated trailheads between Syracuse and Rome. Each walk covers approximately 3 to 5 miles and takes about two hours. All fitness levels are welcome, and the terrain is flat and accessible.

Registration is free for Foundation members and just $5 for non-members. Children under 12 are always free. To reserve your spot, visit our Events page or call us at (315) 555-0123.
